Embark on a Cultural and Culinary Adventure
Prepare for a fantastic insight into the historic, cultural, and aesthetic beauty of the ancient town of Terravecchia in Caltavuturo. Journey with us through narrow, picturesque streets, and take in the ruins of a medieval castle, the Church of San Bartolomeo, and the countless historic remnants this ancient village boasts. Next stop is the picturesque ‘mannera’ to sample local ricotta cheese. We have a special opportunity in this small corner of Sicily to sample ‘manna’ – a speciality product extracted from ash trees around the regions of Castelbuono and Pollina. In August, the narrow streets come alive for the Festival of the Manna. With local cheese, nuts, fresh bread, salami, and mushrooms from the region for sale, it is not uncommon to feast on delicious produce!
Next, we’ll visit the seventeenth-century Chiesa Madre, a beautiful gothic church, and the Church of Santa Maria La Nuova. Take your time admiring the Renaissance paintings and sculptures before enjoying a typical buffet lunch in an original setting. Our day of exploration continues with a visit to the Museo Civico to admire the Hellenistic and Roman artefacts before we venture outside the centre to sample delicious local honey.
